Heat escaping into the attic melts the snow sitting on the roof, and that meltwater refreezes at the cold eaves. As the ice builds, water pools behind it and works back under the shingles. Removing the snow removes the source — especially after heavy snowfall or a stretch of freeze-thaw weather.

613-223-6467What's the best underlayment to put under new shingles?
We install a minimum of 6 ft of ice-and-water shield at the eaves, plus 3 ft in valleys where there are any, with synthetic underlayment over the remainder. The rare exception is a very low-slope roof, which should have 100% ice-and-water shield.
If my roof has a leak, does that mean I need to replace all of it?
Not necessarily. If your roof is still in good shape, repairing the leak should fix the problem. If the roof is in poor shape, repairing the leak could cause more damage than it solves — in that case a replacement may be the better option. An inspection tells us which.
How do I tell when an asphalt shingle roof needs to be replaced?
If your shingles are starting to curl, crack, raise in the wind (this means your seals are broken) or lose granules, it's time to start thinking about replacing your roof. Some of these signs are hard to spot from the ground. If you're not sure of the condition, call Rob — a roof replacement estimate is always free.
